Accessibility Statement

Board Forge Co. is committed to making games accessible to everyone.

Home/Accessibility

Our Commitment to Accessibility

Board Forge Co. believes that everyone deserves to experience the joy of board games — both on screen and at the table. We are committed to ensuring that our website, digital tools, and physical products are accessible to people of all abilities, including those who rely on assistive technologies.

Accessibility is not an afterthought for us; it is a core design principle woven into every stage of our product development and web experience. We continuously work to improve the usability and inclusiveness of our platform so that every visitor can browse, customize, and purchase games with confidence and ease.

Conformance Status

Board Forge Co. targets conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), define how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities.

We strive to meet or exceed Level AA success criteria across all pages of our site, including product listings, checkout flows, custom game builders, and informational pages. While we aim for full conformance, we recognize that accessibility is an ongoing effort and some areas may currently be in partial conformance as we continue to improve.

Our goal is to ensure that all users, regardless of ability, can perceive, understand, navigate, and interact with our website effectively.

Technical Specifications

The Board Forge Co. website is built with modern web standards and has been designed to work with a wide range of assistive technologies and browsers:

  • Screen readers: Compatible with NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver (macOS/iOS), and TalkBack (Android). We use semantic HTML and ARIA attributes to ensure screen reader users receive meaningful, well-structured content.
  • Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements — including navigation menus, product cards, forms, and the checkout flow — are fully operable via keyboard. Tab order follows a logical reading sequence, and focus states are clearly visible.
  • Modern browsers: Optimized for the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. We test across desktop and mobile viewports to ensure a consistent experience.
  • Voice control: Interactive elements are labeled to support voice control software such as Dragon NaturallySpeaking and built-in OS voice control features.
  • Zoom and magnification: The site remains functional and readable when zoomed up to 200% in the browser, and is compatible with screen magnification tools.

Our site relies on HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React. These technologies are used in accordance with WCAG guidelines and are expected to be compatible with current assistive technology when used with a supported browser.

Measures We Take

Board Forge Co. takes the following measures to ensure accessibility across our digital presence:

  • Semantic HTML: We use proper heading hierarchy, landmark regions, lists, and native HTML elements to provide a logical document structure that assistive technologies can parse reliably.
  • ARIA labels and roles: Where native semantics are insufficient — such as custom UI components, modals, and interactive widgets — we apply appropriate ARIA attributes to convey purpose, state, and relationships to assistive technologies.
  • Color contrast ratios: Text and interactive elements are designed to meet or exceed the WCAG 2.1 Level AA minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text. Our brand palette has been audited and adjusted to ensure readability against all background colors.
  • Alt text for images: All meaningful images, product photos, and illustrations include descriptive alternative text. Decorative images are marked with empty alt attributes so screen readers can skip them.
  • Focus indicators: Visible focus outlines are provided on all interactive elements, including links, buttons, and form fields. We use custom focus styles that are clearly distinguishable against our brand palette.
  • Responsive design: The site is fully responsive and adapts to all screen sizes — from mobile phones to wide desktop monitors. Content reflows without horizontal scrolling at standard viewport widths, and touch targets meet minimum size recommendations.

We also include skip-to-content links, maintain consistent navigation patterns across pages, and avoid using color as the sole means of conveying information.

Physical Product Accessibility

Accessibility extends beyond the screen. Board Forge Co. is dedicated to making our physical board game products inclusive and enjoyable for players of all abilities:

  • Tactile game components: Our bespoke game pieces feature distinct shapes, textures, and weight variations so players can identify components by touch. Dice, tokens, and tiles are designed with raised markings and textured surfaces for non-visual identification.
  • High-contrast card designs: Game cards use bold, high-contrast color combinations and clear iconography. Suit and value indicators are placed in multiple corners, and we avoid relying solely on color to differentiate card types — patterns, symbols, and labels are always included.
  • Large text options on custom games: When designing a custom board game through our builder, customers can select large-print options for rule books, game boards, and cards. Font sizes, weight, and spacing are optimized for readability, and we offer high-contrast color scheme options for all printed materials.

We are actively exploring additional accommodations such as Braille rule book inserts and audio rule companions for our most popular titles. If you have specific accessibility needs for a custom order, our design team is happy to work with you to find a solution.

Known Limitations

Despite our best efforts, some areas of the Board Forge Co. website may have accessibility limitations. We are actively working to address these:

  • SVG animations: Some decorative SVG illustrations and animations on product pages and the homepage may not be fully accessible to all users. These animations are purely decorative and do not convey essential content. We are working to ensure that all animated elements respect the prefers-reduced-motion media query and can be paused or disabled.
  • Custom game builder photo upload: The drag-and-drop photo upload feature in the custom game builder currently has limited keyboard and screen reader support. Users can still upload photos using the standard file picker button, which is fully accessible. We are working on improving the drag-and-drop interface to support assistive technologies more robustly.
  • Third-party content: Some embedded third-party content (such as the Stripe checkout modal and certain social media integrations) may not fully meet our accessibility standards. We select third-party partners that prioritize accessibility and advocate for improvements where gaps are identified.

We review and update this list regularly as we remediate issues and conduct new audits. If you encounter a barrier not listed here, please let us know.

Feedback & Contact

We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of Board Forge Co. If you encounter any barriers, have difficulty accessing content, or have suggestions for how we can improve, please reach out:

When reporting an issue, it is helpful to include:

  • The URL of the page where you experienced the issue
  • A description of the problem and what you were trying to do
  • The assistive technology and browser you were using
  • Your preferred method of contact for our follow-up

Assessment & Testing Approach

Board Forge Co. takes a multi-layered approach to accessibility testing to ensure comprehensive coverage:

  • Automated scanning: We run automated accessibility audits using tools such as axe-core, Lighthouse, and WAVE on every deployment. These scans catch common issues including missing alt text, low contrast ratios, missing form labels, and incorrect ARIA usage.
  • Manual testing: Automated tools cannot catch all issues. Our team performs manual keyboard navigation testing, screen reader walkthroughs (using NVDA and VoiceOver), and visual inspection of focus management and content flow on a regular basis.
  • User feedback integration: Real-world feedback from customers who use assistive technologies is one of our most valuable testing inputs. Reports submitted through our contact form are triaged and tracked in our accessibility improvement backlog.
  • Periodic expert review: We engage third-party accessibility consultants to conduct comprehensive WCAG audits on a periodic basis, with a focus on critical user journeys: browsing products, customizing games, completing checkout, and contacting support.

Test results and remediation progress are reviewed quarterly and inform our ongoing accessibility roadmap.
